Therapeutic Listening (Vestibular Input)

196

Hi Everyone,

In the video I shared how I weaned myself off of prescribed sleeping medication. Here are more details:

I started with the Links To Space album because it’s “easy listening” music and typically a good place to start. Well, it was arduous because I wasn’t crazy about the music. But I stuck it out (that’s a good tip for all patients).

The 3rd week I started with Mozart for Modulation. After one week I decided to cut my medication in half to see what would happen (I didn’t try this during weeks 1-2). I fell asleep and remained asleep for 4 hrs. That was a very good sign because I typically can’t fall asleep on my own (it was that bad). After 2 wks of the Mozart for Modulation I stopped the prescribed medication and started the Melatonin (Suspended Release formerly known as Time Released). I also incorporated an 11 lb weighted blanket and began sleeping for 7 hrs.

I occasionally fall asleep without any Melatonin and sleep for approximately 7 hrs undisturbed (mostly with the weighted blanket). I’ve tried the weighted blanket in the past but I still couldn’t fall asleep on my own.

ADDED BENEFITS: The added benefits I received were a decrease in night sweats and a regular menstrual cycle. I was expecting that but something that I noticed. I typically would have 2-3 night sweats a weeks. Now I have maybe 1 every other week. My menstrual cycle has never been normal and now it is. So this is evidence that it does address regulatory issues. I haven’t implemented this for bowel/bladder issues but I do have some kids in mind who are struggling in this area.

MY CURRENT REGIMEN:

Melatonin (Suspended Release)
Mozart for Modulation 1x/daily for 30 mins
11 lb Weighted Blanket

My 30 min listening sessions has morphed into a form of Mindfulness for me. I use it as a meditative tool and I actually enjoy it. I find that if I go a few days without it, my disturbed sleep reappears.

So I reached my goal by the end of 4 wks. I wish I started with Mozart for Modulation first. I’m truly amazed with this intervention. I hope that learning that it can possibly help some parents with their personal issues may make the purchase less risky. It’s no guarantee that it will work for your child as with any treatment. But I have to say, my kids that are high strung and have challenges transitioning (sometimes aggressive)…..this is my go-to treatment.
